If you’re preparing for full mouth implants treatment, it’s completely normal to want to understand what medications you’ll be given and why. Each one is carefully selected to support healing, reduce risk, and keep you as comfortable as possible throughout your recovery. This guide explains what to expect, so there are no surprises on the day.

Antibiotics: Preventing Infection

The main antibiotic we prescribe is amoxicillin, a widely used penicillin-based antibiotic. You’ll begin taking this just before surgery and continue the course afterwards to reduce the risk of infection.

You’ll also receive a second antibiotic in your post-surgery kit, clearly labelled not to use unless advised. This is there as a precaution - if you experience any concerns, our team will guide you on whether it’s appropriate to take it.

If you have a penicillin allergy, we will prescribe suitable alternatives such as metronidazole or erythromycin, so there are always safe options available.

Tranexamic Acid: Reducing Bleeding

You’ll also be given tranexamic acid to take just before and after surgery, typically over a short three-day course.

This medication helps reduce bleeding and support clot stability, which is particularly important during the early healing phase.

Paracetamol: Managing Discomfort

For post-operative comfort, we provide paracetamol, one of the most commonly used pain relief medications. The typical guidance is:

  • Two tablets, up to four times a day
  • Maximum of eight tablets in 24 hours

It’s important to let us know if you’re already taking medications like co-codamol, as these also contain paracetamol. Taking both together could exceed the safe daily limit.

Why This Matters

Every medication we provide is part of a carefully planned protocol designed to minimise risk and support a smooth recovery.

Before surgery, we’ll review your medical history, allergies, and current medications to ensure everything is tailored specifically to you. And if you’re ever unsure at any stage, our team is always on hand to guide you.
