"My family says that I look 20 years younger because I'm not hiding myself anymore, and I've just gone back to being the person I used to be. In fact, I think my family might believe I've gained too much confidence now. I was very self-conscious, didn't want to smile, and used to do a lot of public speaking. As my teeth deteriorated, I did less and less, very aware of their condition. About four years ago, I suffered from malnutrition and lost a couple of teeth, which made things worse. I felt I always had to explain my situation to people, but you don’t want to go around making excuses for yourself, do you?
I had always been thinking about getting treatment and had heard about 'Turkey teeth,' but then my husband said, 'No, you’re not going abroad to have it done because if problems arise, you’re too far away.' To be quite honest, I never found anyone abroad I could trust. That’s why I avoided the dentist; they used to scare me to death. I wasn’t going to swap a dentist here for one who couldn’t speak my language. A lot gets lost in translation, doesn’t it?
Then I found 21D, and this is where I wanted to go. I felt comfortable with it. I came for my assessment, a bit concerned they might not be able to do it. I think that’s everyone's worry once you’ve made your mind up. When they said they could, I was over the moon, more than happy just to pay the money and get it booked. What a difference it’s made to my life. I smile all the time now, so pleased that I just can’t stop. Now that I've got my finals done, they look even better. It’s going to be non-stop photographs because my family won’t stop taking them; they can't get over the difference in me.
We're going out with friends now, so I know they'll be absolutely delighted because they haven't seen me for about three months. They saw me with my temporary ones, but we're going out to meet them now, and they're going to be absolutely blown away by it because it's so different."
