Why You Don’t Need A Local Dentist Anymore
Traditional dentists are experts in caring for natural teeth, but full mouth dental implants are very different. They require advanced knowledge, equipment, and experience to properly assess and maintain. That’s why, once your treatment is complete, we take full responsibility for monitoring your implants and prosthesis long-term.

What To Expect At Your Annual Check-Up at 21D
We invite every patient back for an annual review, typically one year from when your long-term prosthesis (LTP) is fitted. These reviews are essential for keeping your implants healthy and functioning at their best.
At your yearly review, we carry out a comprehensive assessment that includes:
- Implant Health Check: Using advanced imaging and clinical examination, we assess the stability of your implants and the surrounding bone
- Prosthesis Inspection: We check for wear, fit and function of your prosthesis to ensure everything is secure, comfortable, and performing well
- Gum and Soft Tissue Health: Healthy gums are vital for implant longevity, so we examine your soft tissues for any signs of irritation or inflammation
- Professional Clean: we carefully clean your prosthesis and surrounding areas to remove any build-up that regular at-home hygiene may miss
- Advice and Reassurance: You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns, and receive guidance on maintaining your implants day-to-day
It’s worth noting that at 21D, we no longer remove your prosthesis during routine reviews. In the past, prior to today’s advanced technology, this was often done to check the health of the implants beneath. Thanks to our high-resolution CBCT imaging and intraoral scanning, we can now assess everything we need to know without ever disconnecting your prosthesis. You can learn more about this here.
